Good Fryder Cup 2007
Previous Years
The 2007 Story
The fifth Good Fryder Cup was heralded as a "must win" for Cambridge. However, once again the competition adhered to a familiar pattern.
Cambridge raced out of the blocks, building a commanding 3-1 lead in the Fourballs. Shelford fought back in the Foursomes - most notably with Rich Brown's spectacular hole-in-one (after hitting the cable with his first attempt) to win a point on the last - to go into the afternoon with the scores at 4 1/2 to 3 1/2 in Cambridge's favour.
Skipper Matt Skelding quickly extended Cambridge's advantage to 2 points in the first singles tie, but after that it was almost all Shelford. Only Guy Wilby managed to interrupt the rot with a late win, Shelford winning the rest of the match-ups to secure a final scoreline of 9 1/2 to 6 1/2 and win the trophy for the third time in the five years for which it's been played.
Ferg Lury got nearest the pin.
